Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) to all! We hope you enjoyed (or are enjoying!) a fun day.

Things are still just rolling along in our part of the world. Last Saturday we spent the day in a storage unit rented by the Rowlett Needy Children's Fund as a part of our Ship's Scouting for Food participation. Scouting for Food is a national Boy Scouting project in which units collect donated food items (canned, boxed, and dry goods) for local social service agencies and organizations. We served at the receiving end - sorting and stacking the donations for the Rowlett Needy Children's Fund, which serves as a food pantry and clothing closet for low-income people in the area.

Saturday night we attended a FANTASTIC Mardi Gras party! Crazy costumes, gumbo, red beans and rice, beer, and king cake... What could be better?

Sunday was a sailing day... but there were two prohibitors to sailing: (a) very few youth available - i.e., two, and (b) no wind. We spent the afternoon working on our boats before having dinner with Bill & Corinne, and then heading to Jeanne & Tom's to watch the Oscars.

This week we're back into the swing yet again... We ended up getting behind on our book study, so we called it a flop. When we do read the book, we'll let you know how it turns out. Otherwise, dinner with friends or alumni group happy hours... or just a movie or board game at home - the regular evening activities, after sometimes-long days at work... the same old, same old.

This weekend we're in for Catherine's high school friends' wedding, followed by a surprise 30th birthday party for a college buddy. Good times!
