Landscape Project #3

The fun continues! We finally got another weekend morning with no rain, so the next big project has now been accomplished.

We wanted to create a garden bed in the front of our house to spruce up the appearance of the house (both for us and for resale value). A couple of weeks ago Adam mowed down the crazy weeds in the area we wanted to make into a bed, after removing the large decorative stones and brick paver pieces that might once have bordered a bed before. Today we rented a rototiller from Home Depot; Adam tilled the bed area; we spread about 1,300 lbs. of new topsoil; we placed and secured the edging pieces; we laid landscape fabric to smother any surviving or recurring weeds; then we spread mulch over the top. We've placed the decorative stones in the mulch and plan to leave it for a while (to defer cost, and until we decide what we want to plant in it.) Here's one picture; see the rest at our picture site (link at the right).

As for the rest of life, all is going pretty well. We enjoyed dinner with friends on Tuesday night. Last night we went to dinner and the MFA Dance Thesis Concert at SMU with my folks. This evening some of our SMU kids (mentees) will come over for dinner, and tomorrow we're off to Austin for Caleb's fourth birthday party! Fun times! :-)
