More fun in the dirt!

It's been a great week.

Thanks to all who came to my birthday party last Saturday! After much time envisioning it, we created a (fantastic, if I do say so myself!) wine bar at our house for my party. I was hoping for a patio party, but rain kept us inside... Nevertheless, it was a beautiful party. Special thanks to Adam, who insisted that I not host my own party, but enjoy the evening of wine, cheese, crackers, hummus, olives, and pears... and lots of candles... It was wonderful!

I had also been craving crawfish, so my parents, my brother, Adam and I met at Pappadeaux's for dinner on my birthday (Monday). Adam's right- they are over-seasoned, and they're not the same as fresh from the pot in a Louisiana back yard, but I'll take what I can get around here. Another great evening.

This week we worked out our next plan of attack on landscaping. We worked Friday afternoon on weekly lawn maintenance, plus laid out the new garden bed edging pieces in the front yard, in anticipation of tilling the bed on Saturday morning. ... As usual with the best laid plans, ... they changed.

This morning we did go get our new tree! We found out on Earth Day that each year the City of Garland gives away free trees! THey provide 500 free trees to Garland residents, and this year offered three different Oak varieties. First thing this morning we picked up our baby Shumard Red Oak, plus some mulch (also free to city residents!) and planted it in the front yard. Check out a few pictures here.

This project was enough to convince us that last night's rain, which has soaked our yard, would provide nothing but a wet, sticky mess if we were to till the garden bed today... That will have to wait until another time. Special thanks to my parents for the use of their truck!

Off to Jeanne & Tom's tonight to catch up with them, and play cards for a while... Then sailing with the Ship again tomorrow afternoon, and maybe some more yard work... We'll see.
