Scout stuff

Hello, all!

We hope the first few weeks of 2012 have gone well for you.  Things have been busy for us (as usual), but full of fun!

One of the biggest highlights lately was last weekend: we took our Sea Scouts to an event called Sea Scout Academy in Alvin,TX, where they spend a solid two days learning about various Sea Scout-related tasks, skills, history and more.  Adam ended up team-teaching the Customes and Courtesies course, in which they reviewed Boatswain ("BO-zun")'s Whistle calls, the history of the American flag (first the Naval ensign!) and a Sea Scout flag ceremony.  Adam created a competition among his four classes (two crews in each class, so eight total crews competing) for the best flag ceremony.  The winning crew opened the last day of Sea Scout Academy, and closed out the event with the final flag ceremony.  I don't have the closing ceremony, but HERE is a link to a video of the opening ceremony performed by the winning crew.  Thought you'd like to see it!

We're off to a Dallas Sail & Power Squadron meeting this evening, and then to Lake Charles, LA, this weekend for a training for in-coming Bridge (executive) officers.  Adam will be the DSPS' Administrative Officer beginning in May, and it looks like I'll be the Membership officer!  The busy life rolls on...  :-)
