Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me)

"At some point we all make a bad decision, do something that harms another person, or cling to an outdated belief. When we do, we strive to reduce the cognitive dissonance that results from feeling that we, who are smart, moral, and right, just did something that was dumb, immoral, or wrong."
~ Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson

We just finished a study of the book Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) at our church.

This very interesting book is about how we self-justify to explain why we do things that are inconsistent with how we see ourselves, and the impact that cognitive dissonance can have on our lives. We both really enjoyed the book, and absolutely recommend it if you're looking for an interesting read.

Check out the website (click on the title of this entry, or the book picture above) for more info.
